The future of vocational education is built together

How can vocational education keep pace with the rapid transformation of industry?

Digitalisation, automation and the green transition are reshaping the mechanical sector across Europe. As technologies evolve, so do the skills required by companies. The challenge is no longer simply to train future professionals, but to ensure that education systems and businesses evolve together. This is one of the core ambitions of the TECH-BRIDGE VET project: strengthening cooperation between vocational education providers and companies to reduce skills mismatches and support more responsive and future-oriented training systems.

Listening before designing

Before developing new training solutions, the project placed listening at the centre of the process. Interviews and focus groups involving vocational education professionals, industry representatives and labour market experts explored the current challenges affecting school-business cooperation in the mechanical sector. The discussions highlighted common priorities across different stakeholders and provided valuable insights into how vocational education can better respond to changing industrial needs.

A shared vision for future skills

One message emerged consistently throughout the research: stronger collaboration between education providers and companies is essential. Participants recognised that technical expertise alone is no longer sufficient. Alongside specialised knowledge, employers increasingly value adaptability, continuous learning, digital competences and the ability to work with rapidly evolving technologies. At the same time, vocational education providers highlighted the importance of maintaining an ongoing dialogue with businesses to ensure that training remains relevant and responsive.

From dialogue to action

The next phase of TECH-BRIDGE VET will build on these findings through engagement workshops involving vocational schools and mechanical companies across the partner countries. These workshops will introduce the Tech-Bridge Academy platform, collect stakeholder feedback and encourage organisations to actively contribute to the project’s future pilot activities. Rather than presenting ready-made solutions, the workshops are designed to continue the collaborative process that has characterised the project from the very beginning.

Building the future together

Reducing the gap between education and employment requires more than curriculum updates or new digital tools. It requires continuous cooperation, shared responsibility and open dialogue between everyone involved in vocational education. By bringing together schools, companies and experts from across Europe, TECH-BRIDGE VET is working towards a common goal: creating training opportunities that better reflect the realities of today’s labour market while preparing learners for tomorrow’s challenges.
